Southern California Intermediate Term QUAKE FORECAST:

Update: Intermediate Term Forecast is now extended until 6/30/2008

Seismic Warning for Inland Southern California and Baja: "MT Rises Above 17 Units; Could Mean an Earthquake (M6.5+) in Southern California."

-Rev.(October 4, 2003)

This is an Alert for the Southern Segment of the San Andreas Fault Zone from the Western Mojave Desert to the Gulf of California. A strong (=>M6.5) earthquake in that area has a higher probability over the next several weeks, and especially both east and west of the Salton Sea area. MagnetoTelluric(MT), Piezomagnetic and Geomagnetic field anomalies have recently occurred which are related to stress changes at depth along three major strands of the San Andreas fault system. Foreshocks are occuring in the areas near Idyllwild/Anza/Borrego Springs/Ocotillo Wells (San Jacinto fault zone), Obsidian Butte (Brawley Seismic Zone), and Westmorland, CA (Superstition Hills fault)

Update: The ongoing sub-ionospheric disturbance and its relationship with the F2 Sub-Ionospheric Region since (19:09 UTC) April 12, 2003 is a primary precursor of a strong Pacific plate boundary earthquake in the immediately affected region of Southern California and should be highly regarded as such!

November 16, 2003; The Sub-Ionospheric disturbance has now become continuous over the past couple of weeks in its activity level.

March 21, 2004; Strong Infrasonic Acoustic Emissions (AE) first observed just prior to a small earthquake (M3.1), which was epicentered along the southern portion of the Whittier-Elsinore-Laguna Salada fault zone in Southern California.

June 15, 2004; Significantly strong negative MT pulse associated with a M2.7 micro quake epicentered along the San Jacinto fault zone near Loma Linda, CA.

July 10, 2004; Significant Changes in Infrasonic Harmonic Levels were observed which were associated with the Cajon Pass Region(Inland Empire).

September 17, 2004; Strong Series of ULF pulsations detected, and inferred to be related to the Coso Volcanic Field/Garlock Fault Zone (ECSZ/Northern Mojave Desert block).

November 1, 2004; Strong Geomagnetic Oscillations were detected and inferred to be associated with the Southern San Andreas fault zone near San Gorgonio Pass.

December 28, 2004; Increased decompression(unclamping) was detected along the Plate Boundary at Cajon Pass, Southern California just prior to M4.4 at Fontana, CA.

January 11, 2005; A long period with strong piezomagnetic activity related to Palmdale, Mt. Baldy, and Banning micro quakes just prior to M4.3 at Desert Hot Springs, CA.

February 22, 2005; A high frequency ULF signal burst was detected that immediately preceded a M5.5 earthquake epicentered in the Gulf of California.

March 13, 2005; A series of ULF pulsations which began a few days prior to two small earthquakes, which were epicentered in Southern California (M3.6 Valencia, M3.5 Palomar Mountain, CA)

April 15, 2005; Issued an earthquake Warning for the Mojave Desert Block within 24 hours prior to a M5.2 earthquake epicentered near Frazier Park, CA after observing a several hour long period of strong piezomagnetic activity, inferred to be associated with the Pacific & North American Plate Boundary at the Mojave Segment. A small magnitude foreshock was observed less than 12 hours prior to the M5.2, and it was epicentered on the San Andreas fault

May 16, 2005; A long period with strong infrasonic resonant harmonics, which began within 24 hours after the start of a several day long earthqake swarm epicentered along the divergent plate boundary  in Northern Baja, Mexico. Also, unclamping at the Cajon Pass began rising to a level, which was last observed in mid January, 2005.

June 12, 2005; Several high amplitude infrasonic pulsations (precursor) were detected from three specific locations, which are associated with the San Jacinto fault zone from near Idyllwild, Beaumont, and Colton, CA. All of this activity proceded the recent M3.1 Anza Earthquake (foreshock) by several hours. It is inferred that the likelihood of a larger seismic event within the Anza Seismic Gap at an inferred 90 percent probability level was great enough to be considered a sucessful short term seismic alert for the June 12, 2005 M5.6 earthquake from within the same epicentric location.

September 1, 2005: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake epicentered at Obsidian Butte, CA associated with a quite agressive seismic swarm, was preceded by a long period with sustained strong upper level infrasonic harmonic activity previously associated with the ECSZ and the newly forming Plate Boundary in Southern California.
